More Infomation
For 77 years, the
Charlottesville Municipal Band
has provided music for various
civic and statewide events from welcoming dignitaries to Charlottesville, playing
at college graduations, to welcoming new citizens at the Naturalization
Ceremonies held at Monticello each 4th of July. The band also performs many free
concerts in and around the city throughout the year including an annual Christmas
concert. Currently, the band has no permanent home. It rents out an auditorium
once a week in the Old Lane High School, now the county office building. The
county wants to use the band's space for more offices and a new Municipal Arts
Center has been under construction for several years to which the band will
ultimately move. However, the money to complete the building has dried up and
the building fund needs about $250,000 to complete the 7500 square foot
building. In an effort to keep construction going and inspire other corporate
help, Stelling Banjo Works has donated a Red Fox banjo to be raffled off during
the upcoming Christmas concert, Dec. 14th. No more than 1000 tickets will be
sold at $25 each and the raffle will take place with whatever is sold by that
date. ALL receipts go to the building fund and checks must be payable to "The
Municipal Arts Center Bldg Fund" or simply "The Charlottesville Municipal Band."
When a check is received by Stelling at 7258 Banjo Lane, Afton, VA 22920, it will
be deposited in the building fund account and a raffle ticket will be mailed to
the donor. The stub will go into the drawing pot.
Why is Geoff Stelling doing this? He plays cornet and trumpet in the band and
really wants to help. The new building will be an asset to the entire community,
not just the band. Many thanks to those who have already contributed and thanks
to those who will.
